BIOGRAPHY
Matthew Morpheus (Serhii Matveichenko) is a Ukrainian conceptual artist and author whose multidisciplinary practice spans drawing, digital collage, painting, installation, and literature. Drawing on a nomadic, multicultural background across Ukraine, Israel, Germany, and the UK, Morpheus interrogates the intersections of identity, displacement, conscious perception, and contemporary symbolism. His visual language utilizes fragmented imagery and layered, non-linear narratives to construct spaces where the viewer's personal interpretation completes the artwork. Parallel to his visual practice, Morpheus is the author of several philosophical and literary texts, including Zero Emotion, Elysium, and Philosophy of the 21st Century: On the Other Side of Truth. Across its trajectory, Morpheus's practice traces a gradual shift from the exploration of subjective consciousness to the critical examination of external cultural and political systems. His early drawings, produced within the framework of Cartographies of Infinite, presented complex visual structures that encouraged viewers to actively negotiate meaning and perception. In his recent digital collages, Morpheus turns his attention to the construction of contemporary reality through media, ideology, and power. Informed by his philosophical text Zero Emotion and his experience of transnational migration, his work investigates the symbolic and representational systems that shape collective understanding in the twenty-first century.
